The very first camera that nurtured my passion for photography was an old Pentax SLR which my grandmother had given me on my 11th birthday. The camera was a beautiful shiny piece of metal and came with a leather holster case and just felt premium and a class apart from the modern imaging devices that were propping up during the early 2000s. Age and I suppose frantic usage led to its shutter curtain breaking and since repairing it was quite a monetary task it finally became a prop of sorts on my mantle.
Disheartened at first at this major hurdle I slowly regained my broken resolve and started out again with a simple Canon film point and shoot. This camera was quite unreliable as when I would need it the most it would either drain my battery or expose the film or some random problem would make it conk off, but nevertheless I managed to take it on some early excursions in my life to places like Harkidoon, Jalori Pass, Gangotri and other amazing places.
My stint with digital photography began soon after when my Dad bought a Canon point and shoot. It was quite compact for its time (now it is way to bulky), shot at 8MP, had a macro function on it and took CF cards, and those were the days of 120mb cards. I shot quite a lot of our family trips on this little powerhouse and it taught me quite a lot about digital sensors and their workarounds.
The first camera that I bought myself was the Nikon Coolpix S8000. It was the latest and greatest at that time, and I was on cloud nine on getting one. Armed with 14 megapixels, a 3-inch screen, a 4GB SD card that Nikon gave with the camera and a Simplex tripod (the tripod was one of the worst I've ever used but it was free so well whatever) that the store I bought my camera from gave for free I ventured out into the world ready for anything and everything. I shot my backpacking adventures, birthdays, fests, musical gigs and a whole lot of other fascinating things. This little Nikon was there everywhere with me and never gave up on me come what may. I still have this bad boy though a little scuffed here and there but optically ready to go if all else fails.
I moved on to the Digital SLR world with a Nikon D5100 with an 18-55mm kit lens and a 55-200mm Nikon tele lens. This was my staple kit for a very long time while I travelled and covered various events, all the while getting a grasp of the Dx environment and pushing the camera to its limits. All along my journey through the world of photography, I had made quite a lot of connections be it in the field or camera equipment dealers or people who just loved photography per se. These connections helped over time in exchanging lenses, renting out equipment, providing reviews on various new stuff and letting in on their skill sets. Over time I had amassed quite a collection of lenses and other photography equipment.
After a lot of thought and days of pondering upon the fact that I would have to start afresh on my beloved kit, I delved into the world of full-frame which would not have been possible without my mom pitching in and helping me buy the Nikon D750.
